Before the recital, join us for a historical presentation of the Auditorium at 6pm.
French-Italian musician, Adriano Spampanato is a recent graduate of the Cafritz Young Artist program with Washington National Opera (2021-2023). Eager to explore every trend, his repertoire covers music from the 16th century to present day. Adriano’s artistic openness led him to record the organ music for Sacha Wolff's movie Mercenaire (screened at the Cannes Directors' Fortnight). He has performed all over Europe, as well as in the United States, Canada, Russia, Japan, and India, in music venues such as Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, The Kennedy Center, the Paris Philharmonic...
Adriano pursued his studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, earning four Bachelor's degrees (piano, organ, choreographic accompanying, and musicology) and a Master’s degree with academic honors in collaborative piano.
As an organist, harpsichordist, and improviser with a strong interest in baroque music, Adriano is regularly called to perform this repertoire he so loves as a soloist or continuo player. In 2019, he won the Special prize of the Art-Assembly and Tavricheskaya Chapel for the best rendition of baroque music, at M. Tariverdiev's International Organ Competition. While living in New York City, Adriano worked as a pianist-organist at United Methodist Christ Church on Park Ave. He currently serves as the assistant director of music-organist at St Paul's Episcopal Church in Alexandria, VA.
Adriano has a profound appreciation for dance and gave a series of recitals focusing on Isadora Duncan’s repertoire alongside the French dance company Vlovajob, notably at Orangery Museum (Paris) in Monet’s Water Lilies spaces, and at the Louis-Vuitton Foundation surrounded by Matisse's paintings. He also had the chance to perform with the famous choreographer Maguy Marin.
Vocal music has the most significant place in Adriano’s artistic life as he devotes a major portion of his work to opera, choir music, and art songs. He and his musical partner, the soprano Axelle Fanyo, won the Grand Prix Prince Rainier III of Monaco prize for singer-pianist duos at the 11th Nadia and Lili Boulanger International Voice-Piano Competition. In addition, they joined the Art songs Académie Orsay-Royaumont. Through this program, they made a recording of Duparc’s songs available on audio streaming platforms and subsequently performed internationally. He regularly works with The Neemrana Music Foundation in Delhi to promote opera in India.
Adriano has received awards and endowments from the French Foundation (Drouet-Bourgeois piano prize) and the prestigious Zellidja Scholarship from the Académie Française. He was also awarded a Fulbright Scholarship.
In developing his career as a conductor, he has worked as a cover conductor at Opera Saratoga (Saratoga Springs, NY), as an assistant conductor at Washington National Opera and Opera North (Lebanon, NH). Lately, he conducted Mozart’s Lucio Silla and Haendel’s Silla at Chicago Summer Opera and will come back for Haendel’s Agrippina.
