About Grandmaster Djembefola, Bolokada Conde

Bolokada was born in the village of Morowaya, Guinea. He grew to be a Grandmaster Djembefola and shares Malinke (West African Ethnic group) culture, story, rhythm and song through immersive and entertaining shows and workshops. Bolokada is where culture, story and art become one. He was a musical prodigy as a young man in Guinea, West Africa. He played all of the major village events and cultural celebrations for many years However, as he became better known in his home, opportunity knocked. Bolokada answered, and he hasn’t rested since those many years ago. He joined the world famous Les Percussion du Guinee to replace well known Djembefola Momoudy Keita. Bolokada has been touring since 1996 and, since 2004, has been performing and teaching in the United States. He was recognized as an artist of extraordinary ability by the U.S. Government in 2007, and he travels the US and the world. Bolokadda not only shares his Djembe skills with us – he educates, story-tells, lectures, directs ballet and musicals, and has been a university lecturer (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign). Mr. Conde has also been in films and documentaries.
